The follow-up sequel to Rain’s Gambit, taking place roughly right where the first book left off. Commander Rain has the Odyssey on track to head home after being hurtled to an adjacent galaxy and attacked by its occupants the Holy White Empire, only to be ambushed by pursuers from the Empire on the way out. Returning home to a lackluster reception, Adrian is forced to own up to his maverick like tendencies and face the consequences of his actions. His violation of protocol while netting a positive outcome gambled the lives of the rest of his crew, a gamble that starship captains shouldn’t make lightly or freely.

All the while the Insurgency; a group of pissed off rebel colonists angry with the Alliance for their treatment during the war, and the Holy White Empire press in on the Alliance from both sides as it cracks at the seams. The only ones strong enough to hold it together are Adrian and his friends.
